Custom football jerseys for brands: tackle twill numbers, name bars, MOQ and cost
October 21, 2026 · Sports kits, Factory project
A custom football jersey for a brand is a pro-mesh body with a dazzle yoke and sleeves, a stitched two-layer tackle twill number front and back, and an embroidered name bar or wordmark. We make them from 12 pieces per design, with a photographed sample in about 12 days, bulk in 3 to 4 weeks, and 2026 factory-direct pricing from about $34 to $58 per jersey depending on quantity and decoration.
This guide uses a project we finished in October 2026: four small trading-card and collectibles businesses in the US ordered football jerseys as brand merchandise, each with its own colorway, wordmark on the chest, name bar on the back, and individual numbers. The short production video is below, the photos through the article are the finished pieces on the factory floor, not renders, and the full order sheet is on the project page.

What is a brand football jersey, and how is it different from a team order?
A team orders a uniform: one design, every piece identical except the number, built for contact and washed after every game. A brand orders merchandise: the jersey is the product, it sells online or in a shop, and it has to look like a real game jersey in a product photo and feel like one in the hand. That changes four things in how we build it.
| Decision | Team uniform | Brand jersey |
|---|---|---|
| Decoration | Numbers only, often heat-pressed to save cost | Tackle twill numbers plus an embroidered wordmark and name bar, because the stitching is the product |
| Numbers and names | Roster numbers, player surnames | Any number the brand picks (a founding year, a lucky number), the brand name or a city on the name bar |
| Fit | Game cut, sized to go over pads | Pro-cut but trimmed for street wear, so a size L fits like a relaxed L hoodie, not a shell for shoulder pads |
| Labels and packaging | Our label, bulk packed | Your woven label, US compliance label, polybag, hang tag, ready to ship to a customer |
The four jerseys in this project were all brand jerseys: a black body with white twill, a navy body with white twill and a chest crest, and two white bodies with black twill and a sewn-on collar crest. All four used the same pattern, so the client got one sample fit approved and then changed only colors and artwork per brand. If you are building a true team order, our guide to custom football uniforms in bulk covers pads-ready cuts and pants.
What goes into a tackle twill football jersey?
Every piece in the photos is built from the same bill of materials. The numbers below are what we cut and sew in Sialkot for this style; a different factory may use lighter mesh or heat-sealed numbers, which is the first thing to check on a quote.
| Component | Specification | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Body | 100% polyester pro-mesh (micro-hole), 170 to 190 gsm | The open mesh is what reads as "football jersey"; under 160 gsm it goes see-through under twill |
| Yoke and sleeves | Dazzle tricot, 180 to 200 gsm, shine face out | Gives the two-tone look and takes embroidery cleanly; mesh alone puckers under a crest |
| Sleeve stripes | Two 1 inch sewn-in tricot stripes, not printed | Printed stripes crack on dazzle; sewn stripes last the life of the jersey |
| Collar | V-neck rib with contrast tipping, crest embroidered through a backing patch | A crest stitched straight into rib stretches and distorts; the patch keeps it flat |
| Numbers | Two-layer tackle twill, 10 inch back, 8 inch front, zigzag stitched with a 1/8 inch border layer | Two layers give the raised outline; single-layer twill looks flat in photos |
| Name bar or wordmark | Embroidered on a twill plate, then the plate is sewn to the body | Embroidering 10,000 plus stitches straight onto mesh tears it; the plate carries the stitch count |
| Construction | Overlocked seams, double-needle hem, dropped shoulder pro-cut | The dropped shoulder is what makes it wearable as streetwear |
The chest wordmarks on this project ran between 6,000 and 11,000 stitches each. That is why they sit on a plate rather than directly on the mesh, and why we price a wordmark separately from a plain name bar. Our football jerseys with names and numbers page lists the standard number heights and fonts; custom fonts work if you supply the vector file.
Tackle twill, sublimation or screen print: which one for a brand jersey?
Brands usually ask for twill because it photographs like the real thing. It is not always the right call, so here is the honest comparison for the jerseys we make.
| Tackle twill + embroidery | Sublimation | Screen print or heat transfer | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Look | Raised, stitched, pro-jersey feel | Flat, any color or gradient, all-over graphics | Flat, solid colors, can crack on mesh |
| Durability | Outlasts the fabric; stitched edges do not peel | Dye is in the fiber, never peels; can fade with harsh detergent | Lowest; vinyl numbers peel after 30 to 50 washes |
| Per-piece names and numbers | Easy, cut per piece | Easy, printed per piece | Each change is a new screen or transfer |
| Color limit | Twill colors in stock, about 25; thread unlimited | Unlimited | 1 to 4 practical |
| Cost at 24 pieces | Highest | Middle | Lowest |
| Best for | Brand drops, retail, gifts, anything photographed close up | Gradient or pattern designs, large rosters | Budget practice wear |
A common hybrid for brands is a sublimated body (so the pattern can be anything) with twill numbers stitched on top; we cover the decoration trade-offs in sublimation vs embroidery vs DTF. For a plain-body two-tone jersey like the ones here, full twill and embroidery is the right choice; see the two-tone football jerseys range for the yoke and sleeve combinations we keep in stock fabric.
How do you get a wordmark and name bar to come out right?
Almost every problem on a brand jersey comes from the artwork, not the sewing. This is the checklist we send before cutting anything.
- Vector artwork for the wordmark and crest (AI, EPS, SVG or PDF). A PNG from a website gets redrawn, which adds 2 days and can change letter shapes.
- Font rights. If the wordmark uses a licensed typeface, the brand owns that license, not us. We stitch what you send.
- Minimum letter height of 0.5 inch for embroidery and 1.5 inch for cut twill letters. Thinner than that and serifs fill in.
- Plate size and placement marked on a flat sketch: chest plate usually 10 by 2.5 inches, back name bar 12 by 2.5 inches, sitting 1.5 inches above the number.
- Thread and twill colors as Pantone references. Black, white, navy and royal are stock; others are matched from our thread chart and shown in the sample photo.
- A piece list: size, number, name text, for every jersey. The sample is made from line 1 of that list.
We send a stitched sample photo of the plate before it is sewn to the jersey, so a letter-spacing fix costs one plate, not one jersey.
What do custom football jerseys for a brand cost in 2026?
These are our factory-direct ranges for the specification above (pro-mesh body, dazzle yoke, two sewn sleeve stripes, two-layer twill numbers front and back, one embroidered chest wordmark up to 10,000 stitches, one embroidered name bar). Prices are per jersey, ex-factory; shipping and US duty are quoted separately or rolled into a DDP price on request.
| Quantity per design | Price per jersey (USD) | What moves it |
|---|---|---|
| 12 to 24 | $50 to $58 | Twill cutting and embroidery setup spread over few pieces |
| 25 to 49 | $42 to $50 | Setup amortized, fabric still cut per design |
| 50 to 99 | $37 to $42 | Full fabric roll utilization |
| 100 and up | $34 to $37 | Line production, bulk thread and twill purchase |
Drivers up: a second wordmark (back and front), sleeve numbers, a sublimated body, custom woven labels under 300 pieces, and retail packaging. Drivers down: heat-applied numbers instead of twill (about $6 less per piece, not recommended for retail), one name bar text shared by the whole run, and reorders of an approved design. For small first drops the low minimum football uniforms page explains how we handle 12 to 24 piece runs without a surcharge beyond the table above.
What are the lead time and quality checks?
- Artwork proof, 1 to 2 days. A flat mockup per colorway with plate sizes and number heights marked.
- Pre-production sample, about 12 days. One finished jersey from line 1 of your piece list, photographed front, back, collar and inside label, and shipped if you want it in hand (add 4 to 6 days).
- Bulk, 3 to 4 weeks for 12 to 100 pieces after sample approval; 4 to 5 weeks for 100 to 500.
- QC to AQL 2.5. Every piece is checked for twill alignment (number centered within 1/4 inch), stitch breaks, thread trims, and label placement, then photographed against the piece list before packing.
- Shipping, 5 to 8 days to a US address by DHL, FedEx or UPS, DDP if you want the duty handled before it reaches you.
For this project the four brands shared one sample round because the pattern was common, so the first jersey was photographed on day 11 and all four runs shipped together in week 5.
How should a brand size a football jersey drop?
Team orders are sized from a roster. A brand drop is sized from expected demand, so the fit has to be forgiving. We cut this style as a relaxed pro-cut: the dropped shoulder and mesh body give about 2 inches more ease than a fitted tee, and the measurements below are the finished garment, not the body.
| Size | Chest width, flat (in) | Body length (in) | Typical share of a brand drop |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | 21 | 29 | 10% |
| M | 22.5 | 30 | 25% |
| L | 24 | 31 | 30% |
| XL | 25.5 | 32 | 20% |
| 2XL | 27 | 33 | 10% |
| 3XL | 28.5 | 34 | 5% |
The share column is the split we see most often on 24 to 100 piece brand runs; adjust it to your own sales history. Youth sizes and a women's cut are available from the same pattern family. Brands that want their own label, size tag and packaging on every piece should look at private label football uniforms, which is the OEM version of this build.
How to order custom football jerseys for your brand
Send us the wordmark artwork, the colors, the number and name list, and the quantity per design. We come back within one business day with a flat mockup, a per-piece price from the table above, and a sample date. The sample run is 2 to 3 pieces if you want to photograph before committing to the 12 piece minimum. The fastest route is the custom football jerseys page for the base styles, then a quote request with your artwork attached, or a WhatsApp message to +1 (346) 200-8006 with a photo of what you have in mind.
Frequently asked questions
What is the minimum order for custom football jerseys for a brand?
Twelve pieces per design is our working minimum for a tackle twill football jersey, and a single design can mix sizes and player numbers. Below 12 the twill cutting and embroidery setup makes the unit price hard to justify, so for a one-off we suggest a sample run of 2 to 3 pieces first and a 12 piece drop after.
Can every jersey in the order have a different number and name?
Yes. Numbers and name bars are cut and embroidered per piece, so each jersey can carry its own number, name or city name at no extra setup cost. We ask for a simple sheet listing size, number and name text per piece, and we photograph every piece against that sheet before packing.
Tackle twill or sublimation for a brand jersey?
Tackle twill if you want the raised, stitched look that reads as a real game jersey and holds up to years of washing. Sublimation if the design needs gradients, all-over graphics or more than three colors in the body. Many brand drops combine both: a sublimated body with twill numbers on top.
How long does a brand jersey order take?
About 12 days to a photographed pre-production sample after artwork approval, then 3 to 4 weeks for a 12 to 100 piece bulk run, then 5 to 8 days to a US address by express courier with duties paid. Reorders of an approved design skip the sample and run in 3 weeks.
Do you add our brand label and packaging?
Yes. The collar can carry your woven or printed brand label in place of ours, with a size label and the US-required fiber content, country of origin and care label beside it. Each piece is folded with a size sticker and polybagged, and we can add a hang tag or a custom printed bag if you supply the artwork.
